Took my son Zac up to Les 2 Alpes for the opening weekend of the mountainbiking lift season for 2014. I felt slightly conspicuous with my short travel carbon prompt p241 29 er amongst all the long travel downhill bikes.
I did at least wear a full face helmet / baggy shorts and body armour.
I soon found out the bike handled just fine and we were soon passing our longer travelled friends. The tight switchbacks were a little harder on the 29 er but the bike and myself handled them fine.
It was also great following Zac down the trails. He has a real style now going airborne at every available moment.

We love great stories here and nothing comes more epic than tackling alpe d’huez 6 times in one day. Each year the Dutch arrive en mass for alpe d’huzes. They ride up 6 times either as a team or individually raising money for cancer research.

Blasted out 50km yesterday on my carbon prompt p241 29er yesterday. Most of my training miles will be conducted on the road as that is my day job but I will be doing as much off road riding as I can in preperation for October.
First thoughts are I need to work on my upper body strength as road riding does nothing for this. I also need to find some technical trails to dial in my technique .
Father and son from Holland were with us last week and hired a couple of bikes. They tackled Alpe d’Huez, Col de Sarenne and also the road out to La Berarde. Apparently the father ( a keen cyclist) at 65 comfortably beat his son up all the climbs in the area.

Until I moved out to France I pretty much exclusively mountain biked – indeed the Megavalanche first brought me out here in 2007 to compete.
Since then I have turned to the darkside – roadriding. This summer though I have built up a new cross country carbon 29er to train on and to finally compete on in the Cape to Cape 4 day stage race just outside Perth , Australia. I will be staying with our friends at BikeSure. Indeed the managing director himself will be helping out on the support crew. Beer anyone ?
Over the last few years there have been so many different mountain bike standards brought in (axle types / headsets / wheel sizes etc) that it has taken me a while to complete the bike build. Today I finally finished it.

Each year we give away a jersey to the best photo of you on your prompt d211 bike. To get us going for 2014 here is the first one from Louis (in pink) from Spain competing in this year’s Paris Roubaix challenge in April.
Our Alpe d’Huez Jerseys have proved very popular both at our shop in Bourg d’Oisans and also through our online shop. Due to a few requests we are now introducing some new colours to the range. The first will be in purple.
Stock is expected in at the end of May 2014.
I have to admit I was a little nervous watching the prompt D211 road bikes heading off with their new hire owners for the weekend to compete in the notoriously tough (on bike and body) paris roubaix challenge.
I should not have worried though all the bikes returned successfully, a little dirtier , having had one puncture and with a couple of headsets needing attention. Nothing major but I will be in the Prompt workshop in Bourg d’Oisans for a few days servicing them for their probable next attack up Alpe d’Huez.

The frame has been hand painted and finished here in Bourg d’Oisans. This frame is destined to be a hire bike for 2014 and will be built up with shimano ultregra 11 speed
Jon is here this week on a school skiing trip and is also trying to squeeze some alpine cycle training in for Liege Baston Liege and the L’Etape du Tour.
We delivered his bike in Alpe d’Huez just as the sun was rising on Monday morning. The ski area is still looking pretty good but summer is definitely on the way.

Glorious weather today for our regular Cycling Alpe d’Huez in the Winter / Spring. 3 guys in Alpe d’Huez Skiing for the week took advantage of our bike hire service with transfers today to ride the magical 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez.

New cycle shoe hire your cycle hire. For 2014 we are stocking Shimano R064 Road Cycling Shoes to hire for the period of your cycle hire. Shoes are only available when you hire your bike through us. Shimano road cleats will be fitted to the bottom of the shoes.
Simpson Magazine Issue 4 is now available online and in our shop in Bourg d’Oisans. We will also have stock at the 2014 Paris Roubaix Velodrome
We now have Ride Journal issue 8 in stock at our shop and via mail order through our website.
This is one of our favourite cycling magazines covering all the disciplines and with some great photography and art work.

Phil recently spent 3 weeks cycling in New Zealand and took out his prototype Titanium PROMPT D902. Its light enough to race but is also strong enough to attach a rack and panniers.
