Cycling Map of the French Alps

19 Apr

Taking advantage of the Covid19 Lockdown here in France and the fact we are not allowed to ride outside at all at the moment despite some glorious weather, I have finally put the finishing touches to our Climbs of the French Alps Cycling Tube Map posters and stocked a few for mail order dispatch only. Due to the complexity and details of the map they are only available in the larger 70cmx50cm size. They do however fit in an IKEA frame.

Climbs of the French Alps

These are now available to buy on-line only until we are allowed to open up shop again sometime in the future.

I have also created a new stand alone website for our tube maps to which I will be adding a lot more information to over the coming months.

Covid19 and our summer season…

Like all small business (it’s just me!) and especially those in the tourist industry we have seen a collapse of our summer booking both new and existing.

We really do have too many hire bikes in stock for this summer now especially in sizes Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

So, if you are interested in buying any of our standard rim brake carbon Shimano Ultegra complete bikes, or if you have a bunch of bits in your garage and you just need a frame and fork please get in touch with us via email.

Complete bikes from 800 euros

Frame and fork plus headset from 250euros plus postage then please contact us for more information.

2015 Photo Competition – Nineteen – Bob does Alpe d’Huez

22 Oct

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of bike Prompt.CC  provides. I been travelling across 7 different European countries on this trip and none of the other bicycles I have rented matched this quality or condition of their bicycles.

Thanks Prompt.CC for helping make my Alpe d’Huez ride a truly epic event.

The Tour de France 2014

5 Jul

The Tour de France 2014 starts today in Leeds. I hope that it will be more exciting than the Team Sky dominated editions of the last two years. Hopefully, the mix of Contador/Valverde/Nibali will be able to derail the News Corp train.

My prediction for the Tour de France podium is as follows;

1. Chris Froome

2. Alberto Contador

3. Alejandro Valverde

The stage I’m most looking forward to is Stage 13 – the summit finish at Chamrousse . Chamrousse was the first HC climb I ever did and is still my favourite. On the way to Chamrousse they will take a detour into the Chartreuse via the Col de Palaquit – another one of my local climbs when I lived in  Grenoble. The More than 21 Bends Tour of the Oisans often takes a detour into the Belledonne mountain range to climb Chamrousse via the Col Luitel.

Back from the darkside my weapon of choice for the Australian Cape to Cape in October PROMPT P241

21 May

Until I moved out to France I pretty much exclusively mountain biked – indeed the Megavalanche first brought me out here in 2007 to compete.

Since then I have turned to the darkside – roadriding. This summer though I have built up a new cross country carbon 29er to train on and to finally compete on in the Cape to Cape 4 day stage race just outside Perth , Australia. I will be staying with our friends at BikeSure. Indeed the managing director himself will be helping out on the support crew. Beer anyone ?

Over the last few years there have been so many different mountain bike standards brought in (axle types / headsets / wheel sizes etc) that it has taken me a while to complete the bike build. Today I finally finished it.

A bit late for the 2013 PROMPT D211 Photo competition….

8 Feb

Phil R from Australia sent us this photo with the following email

“You may not remember us but myself and 4 mates hired your very comfortable Prompt bikes in early June this year. We had the best time climbing the Alp d’Huez, Col de Sarenne, Notre Dame, and all the other great rides in the area. The experience had during those 9 days made  a long time dream of mine come true and hopefully we’ll be back to hire your bikes again soon.

Attached is one of many photos we took during the 9 days but it was the most satisfying  of all our rides, climbing up the “backside” of Alp d’ Huez via Col de Sarenne. We tell people back in Australia we did it the hard way, not like the pros in Le Tour!  This was the hardest cycling achievement I have had and at 65 years old, can’t leave it too long if I want to eclipse that!

Anyway, a great experience and hopefully we can all do it again in the not too distant future. Thanks for your help with the bikes.”

Cycling Alpe d’Huez in the winter

16 Dec

The road up to Alpe d’Huez is open all year round and so it is perfectly safe and possible to cycle up the 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez. In fact Phil braves it at least once a month through the winter season.

We understand that you are probably not here to cycle but to Ski in Alpe d’Huez. Through out the winter months from the beginning of December to the end of February we offer 1 day bike hire on the Sunday or Wednesday with vehicle transfers and photos. If there are 4 or more of you we are happy to provide the service on any day of the week. All bikes must be pre booked online at least 48 hours before your date of hire.

Read below to see how it works

Here is how it works

Are you staying in Alpe d’Huez ?

  • Pick up in our minibus at 10AM in Alpe d’Huez at the finish line.
  • Transfer down to Bourg d’Oisans and set you set up on your hire bike.
  • Support you on your climb up the mountain taking photos and generally shouting out some encouragement.
  • Once you have finished your ride we will take the bike off you and leave you to your skiing holiday.

Staying in Bourg d’Oisans or outside of Alpe d’Huez ?

  • Meet us at the shop in Bourg d’Oisans at 11AM for your bike fitting.
  • Support you on your climb up the mountain taking photos and generally
    shouting out some encouragement.
  • If it is cold you may not wish to descend back down Alpe d’Huez. If this is the case we are happy to take you and the bike back down to Bourg d’Oisans

Book your bike here to Cycle Alpe d’Huez in the winter

Bad weather and cancellation

If it is snowing then the ride will be cancelled. You will have the opportunity to ride on our next available day or if this is not convenient a full refund. A refund on the hire is only available if the weather is bad on your original booking day. By making the booking you agree that PROMPTS decision is final on whether the ride takes place or not. Riding Alpe d’Huez in the winter will require winter riding gear such as long finger gloves , hats and winter bib tights.

9 Dec

Back to Alpe d’Huez now with Gerard who was here last June to compete in the Alpe d’Huzes event at the beginning of June. Alpe d’Huzes is a dutch charity event where the competitors climb Alpe d’Huez 6 times in one day for Cancer charity. Last year I believe they raised over 30 million Euros.
