Our hire bikes are definitely faster than the Alpe d’Huez bikes.. Andrew in March having successfully conquered Alpe d’Huez. Andrew stayed with More Than 21 Bends on a bed and breakfast basis in Bourg d’Oisans and had two glorious days of cycling in the immediate area.

Helen and I have deliberated, discussed and debated and have chosen this great photo from the 2014 Etape du Tour. A rare moment when it was not raining.
Mark please get in touch with us so we can send you out a Col du Galibier Jersey.

We have been busy since Christmas shuttling customers dowm Alpe d’Huez from their skiing holiday to tackle the climb back up on one of our bikes. Yesterday we had the first person go under the hour mark climbing Alpe d’Huez in 55 minutes. An impressive time in the summer let alone in the cold winter months
We have had over 30cm of snow overnight here in Bourg d’Oisans. Winter Cycling is off for a few days 😦

Which has meant disappointed skiers have been looking for alternatives.
We have been busier than normal with more bike hire.
We offer a winter pick up service from Alpe d’Huez and have pedals/ shoes and helmets to hire
Theo and Hattie finish here this weekend and head back to england on their prompt d927 steel frames with panniers
Last month, Hattie and I went to Annecy. We took our Prompt D927 steel bikes with the intention of trying the route of the 2013 étape du tour.
On the first day we took the bike path to the southern end of the lake, before returning by the Col de la Forclaz – a wickedly steep climb. The next day we were caught in a large thunderstorm whilst ascending the Tour de France route up Annecy Semnoz. We ran out of time on the last day for the etape route so we did a shortened version finishing with the southern ascent of Semnoz.
The riding was fantastic even with the August traffic. The views from the climbs are stunning and the bike path makes for an easy ride out of the town centre. A place well worth visiting.
Here’s a great picture of one of our Galibier t-shirts atop Mont Ventoux in Provence.
Want to take the away the pain of assembling and disassembling your bike when on holiday?
At Prompt, we are more than willing to assemble and /or disassemble your bike ready for transport.
For 25 euros your bike will be assembled and given a check to make sure the gears are working and the bike is safe to ride. Furthermore, the bike will be ready to ride/take away in less than a couple of hours.
Next weekend. an enormous number of cyclists will visit Bourg d’Oisans to take part in the Marmotte sportive. The route is 170 km and takes in the Col du Glandon, Col de Telegraphe and Col du Galibier before finishing on Alpe d’Huez. For most, the route will take upwards of 8 hours to complete due to the 5000 m of vertical ascent required to complete the course.
Last week, the University of Bristol Bike Club (my old university) came to the Oisans for a week of riding. On the last day, I joined up with them to do the Marmotte route. In spite of an earlier start than they were used to, eighteen riders set off up the Col du Glandon. The ride was superb – all riders were very strong and despite the challenging parcours, all finished in roughly 8 hours (even with some very relaxed grupetto riding on the Telegraphe).
Luckily for us, the weather was set fair the whole day but arm warmers and a small jacket were still vital due to the altitude gain and the long descents. Carrying enough food and water for the route is hard as there is only so much you can fit in back pockets!
This year, More than 21 Bends have decided to offer day rides for groups of riders wanting to do long rides such as the Marmotte. Van support will be provided and thus all your food and acessories can be placed in the van leaving your back pockets free! In addition, the vehicle support provides the piece of mind that you won’t be stuck in the Maurienne valley for eternity if you have bitten off more than you can chew!
There are many great rides out of reach of most who stay in Bourg d’Oisans. Driving allows one to climb legendary Tour de France passes such as the Col de Madeleine and the Col d’Izoard. In addition, there are some fantastic lesser known routes in the mountain ranges surrounding Grenoble.
In addition to the black and white Alpe d’Huez jerseys, we have added purple to the collection for 2014. Above is the jersey atop the Col du Galibier one on of the more than 21 bends tours.
Father and son from Holland were with us last week and hired a couple of bikes. They tackled Alpe d’Huez, Col de Sarenne and also the road out to La Berarde. Apparently the father ( a keen cyclist) at 65 comfortably beat his son up all the climbs in the area.
Win a Col du Galibier Jersey by sending in your PROMPT photos. Check out the rest of the photos from 2014 here
Glorious weather today for our regular Cycling Alpe d’Huez in the Winter / Spring. 3 guys in Alpe d’Huez Skiing for the week took advantage of our bike hire service with transfers today to ride the magical 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez.

After much deliberation we have chosen this photo for our 2013 Prompt photo competition. The photo is of Arne from Norway who hired a whole bunch of bikes from us in June. Arne has chosen an Alpe d’Huez Jersey in black as his prize.
Arne brought a big group a long in June 2013 to tackle some of the big cols in the area including Col de La Croix de Fer, Glandon, Galibier and of course Alpe d’Huez
He sent in a large selection of photos. They can be seen here >>
Our two favourites are the following.

If you hired or bought a bike from us in 2013 we are after your photos. The more unusual the better. We will be choosing one photo at the end of December and that lucky person will receive one of our exclusive Alpe d’Huez Jersey. Simply attach your photo to an email and send it in to us.

We always like to receive photos from our customers who have either bought or hired a PROMPT from us. Peter from Australia and his group hired some bikes from us in September and he sent us these photos. The first one is of him on the Col de la Madeleine – with still some way to go. Not sure why you are sitting down there Peter !! The second is at the top of Alpe d’Huez
We are closing down the shop for 2013 now and have been sorting out all the bikes to store away for the winter. Our first bike hire of 2014 will be at the Paris Roubaix Sportive in April. Please contact us for more information.
We will still be providing mail order on our jerseys and tshirts throughout the winter months. For guaranteed Christmas deliveries please order before the 1st December 2013.
In addition for 2014 we are adding a few more designs to our clothing collection. More to follow over the coming months.
