The Col du Galibier is a lung sapping 50KM climb from our shop here in Bourg d’Oisans. We celebrate this climb with our Galibier jersey. On the left sleeve we have the More Than 21 Bends logo. We love getting photos from our clients with their PROMPT d211 Hire bikes. Father and Son from South Africa hired bikes from us last year to ride as many cols as possible. They liked the bikes so much they ended up buying a couple of custom finished frames from us. On top of this they are back again this year and are hiring 2 more bikes from us.

Theo the bike mechanic and he’s pretty quick up Alpe d’Huez

With the cycling season now well upon us and the sun starting to make an appearance we are pleased to welcome Theo Flack to our More Than 21 Bends team.  Theo, a student at Bristol University has just finished a year at university in Grenoble and will be with us all summer helping out behind the scenes, at the Prompt shop and joining us for a few rides no doubt.

Alpe d’Huzes passes the PROMPT Shop

Day 1 of the 2 day dutch charity Alpe d’Huzes event commenced today at 10 AM and cyclists continued to roll past the shop until 10:45AM! Todays target is to ride Alpe d’Huez 4 times.

Bike Hire Delivery Service

Over the last few weeks we have been trialing our bike hire delivery service. This takes three forms.

  1. We have hooked up with More Than 21 Bends so that your bikes will be delivered for the beginning of your cycle tour, either here in Bourg d’Oisans or further afield such as the Paris Roubaix Sportive
  2. If you are looking for a Self Supported Tour in Bourg d’Oisans then there are a list of properties here where your bikes can be delivered to your property.
  3. For large groups of 5 or more bikes we offer a delivery service to your property to a maximum of 100 km from Bourg d’Oisans. Certain conditions apply so please contact us before making the reservation.

Paris Roubaix Challenge Cycle Hire

We are pleased to announce that we will be exclusively offering PROMPT.CC hire bikes to all guests on their More Than 21 Bends Paris Roubaix weekend.

To secure a hire bike for the weekend please contact us in the first instance or reserve your bike with your Paris Roubaix Cycling Holiday.

The full carbon bikes will be set up with 25mm tyres and super tight bottle cages so your bidons do not go flying as soon as you hit the first Pave section !

Criterium du Dauphine 2013 Alpe d’Huez stage Cycle Hire

With the Criterium du Dauphine visiting Alpe d’Huez and also the Col de Sarenne on Saturday 9th June this could be an ideal time for you to get up close to Chris Froome and Alberto Contador as they do their last minute preparation for the Tour de France.

First ride of the PROMPT D926

Ella and I beat the rain this morning and rode out to Allemont on the new PROMPT D926 road hire bikes. We have 3 of these full carbon road bikes for summer 2013 in sizes 50, 54 and a gigantic 60 cm frames. The frames boast full integrated cable routing and provide a similar super smooth ride to our D211 road bike.As is the tradition here the D926 is named after a local climb or road. In this case it is the beautiful Col de la Croix de Fer.

Simpson Magazine Issue 1

Our magazine collection in the shop is growing by the week and we are now pleased to be stocking issue one of Simpson Magazine.

 

Issue one includes a first-hand account of what it was like to be a spectator in Paris on the final day of last years Tour de France. They also take a look at some of the classic kit we all like to wear as we act out our pro team fantasies. You’ll also find plenty of practical tips and advice about how to get the most from your ride.

Introducing Theo our new mechanic/guide for 2013

Theo has been studying Chemistry at Grenoble university this year. A chance meeting on the Col du Glandon whilst out riding last September led to an interview and us offering him a job here in Bourg d’Oisans.  As a keen mechanic and cyclist he will be servicing our fleet of 18  hire bikes as well as guiding as part of the More Than 21 Bends experience.

I finally managed to get out on a ride with him in and around the Grenoble hills this week. As a chemist he has some interesting theories on genetic doping !

The PROMPT shop in Bourg d’Oisans is having a make over

Over the last couple of weeks the PROMPT.CC shop in Bourg d’Oisans has been having a bit of a make over. Currently I am waiting for the new floor to dry which has slowed progress down a bit.

For 2013 we will have a new stock of hire bikes as well as a whole load of new magazines for your holiday read plus a new 2013 Alpe d’Huez Cycling Jersey that has already proved popular with over 75% of people reserving one when making a Alpe d’Huez Cycle Hire reservation.

More photos of the shop will be available over the  next few weeks. In the meantime all the PROMPT bikes are stored in the office space. Here’s hoping the floor dries quickly !

  • Thursday 2nd May: Make your own way to the More Than 21 Bends B&B in Bourg d’Oisans or join the transfer from Grenoble train station at 4pm. Opportunity to test Lightweight Wheels and Prompt bikes or join More Than 21 Bends on a short late afternoon ride. Evening meal at MT21Bs.
  • Friday 3rd May: Breakfast at MT21B.  80KM Guided ride including ascent of Alpe d’Huez leaving 10.00am.  Informal pre dinner talk and introduction to Lightweight Wheels. Evening meal at MT21B.
  • Saturday 4th May: Breakfast at MT21B.  Guided ride of 100km taking in the Col de la Morte and the Col d’Ornon leaving 10.00am.  Informal pre dinner talk by our Nutrition Partner. Evening meal at MT21B.
  • Sunday 5th May: Early Breakfast at MT21B.  80KM ride including the spectacular Traverse d’Oisans and Les Deux Alpes. Evening meal at MT21B.

The PROMPT P658

Our Marketing guru Andy will be test riding our new Prompt P658 26 inch carbon MTB. He has gone for ice blue graphics on a raw carbon frame. We will be building the bike up over the next couple of week with Shimano XT, Rockshox Reba forks and Mavic wheels. More photos to follow over the next couple of weeks –  Andy’s first words on seeing the frame was “Grrrrrrrr – looking forward to it !”

Hire Bike Upgrade for 2013

Bike Upgrades

We are pleased to announce that all our 2013 hire fleet have been upgraded with full carbon handlebars, new carbon/alloy FSA stems and carbon bottle cages. We have 15 bikes in stock for 2013 ranging from 49 to 58cm in size both with compact and triple chainsets. In addition Shimano Ultegra now support  a 30 tooth rear cassette. All bikes will be replaced with 30 cassettes when the existing 28 tooth cassette has worn out. Please check each individual bike for more details on our website.

Additional Services for 2013

In addition to the upgrades we are also pleased to announce

  1. A group discount on bike hire starting from 5% for 5 bikes and rising to 15% for all 15 bikes. Discounts will be applied when you pick the bikes up. Please contact us for more information before making your booking
  2. A drop off and pick up service for more than 6 bikes in and around the Oisans area. Minimum hire for this service is 5 days. Discounts above do not apply if the bikes are delivered to you. Please contact us for more details and to check our availability  before making your booking.
  3. All hire bikes will be available to buy at the end of the 2013 season. Prices will start from 1200 euros per bike plus delivery. The bikes will be fully serviced. Again please contact us for more details or have a chat with us when you pick up your bike.

A green bike and a blue sky on the Galibier

It was 32 degrees on the Galibier yesterday. The skies could not have been bluer or the riding more perfect. This is September in the Alps. Once again our guests had achieved a ‘bucket list’ ambition and the photos and smiles at the summit tell the story many times over. PROMPT bikes have been up and down these mountains for another summer, fulfilling these ambitions and adding to the stories that they tell their grandchildren, their friends and their work colleagues. On the way down our ‘opinion dividing’ green PROMPT was being nursed up to the summit  by another customer. It looked great against the blue mountain sky.

Eight PROMPT D211s on the Col de la Croix de Fer

September cycle hire in Bourg d’Oisans is a busy affair. Last Thursday on a typically beautiful sunny early autumn day we had 8 hire bikes rented out and all making their way up on to the Col de la Croix de Fer. I passed a few while taking our cycling group up and also took a few photos of the others.
